Tolerance Calculator (version 4.0 released January 2002)

A FREEWARE application produced by Chris Grachanen of Hewlett-Packard (formerly Compaq) for Windows® 2000 (inc. Win98, NT, etc). The earlier TolCal3 version is also available for Windows® 3.1x.

The program was designed to perform calculations associated with interpreting equipment tolerances and other metrology related functions such as test uncertainty ratios (TUR, also known as test accuracy ratio, TAR), accumulated uncertainties, consumer and producer risk, etc.. The main purpose is provide users with a 'bottom line' method for evaluating equipment specifications using the same nomenclature equipment manufacturers use when advertising their equipment capabilities, i.e. % of Range, parts per million (ppm) of Reading, % of Span, etc.. Additionally, it includes comprehensive reference material in the form of an SI Units Converter and definitions for the base, supplementary and derived units, tables of fundamental constants, multiplication factor names and fixed points on the ITS90.

New in revision 4.0:

· MS 'Excel' and 'Word' added to TolCal4 Reports applications
· System File for routing TolCal4 to application drives and directories
· Optimized for 800 x 600 display with auto resizing for higher resolutions
· Menus replacing most command buttons providing a more 'Windows' like environment
· Quick Print command for printing data without invoking a Windows application
· Remarks Pad for imbedding comments into TolCal4 files
· Scratch Pad for copying / pasting data between TolCal4 files
· Tab Delimited File option
· Updated on-line manual

Opinion

This program looks very professional and should prove a useful tool to the over-stressed metrologist !
